Meet April Staker, November Spotlight Designer at DigiScrapWarehouse

Hi, I’m April Staker, sometimes seen around forums and galleries as DigiApe.

I’ve been married to Joe for over 13 years.   We have 3 kids, Brynja who is 11, Josh soon to be 8, and Aliyah 6.  And as if they didn’t keep things lively enough we have a houseful of pets- a dog (my kids keep reminding me there will be 2 soon), 2 tiny baby tortoises, 3 fish tanks, one leopard gecko and 2 birds.  It’s a noisy and busy house and I love it!
I am a SAHM, have been since our oldest was born.  I feel very blessed to be at home.  I do have a need to fill my time with useful things though.  I rarely watch TV.  I would much rather be creating something, whether it is art (I was a Fine Arts major), photography, decorating, designing or scrapping- I can almost always be found with a project in hand.  I have a hard time even watching a movie without something in my hands!  My hubby and I also own a home based business and this is our 13th year at it.  That keeps me busy as I do all of the computer end of things and his scheduling. 

I started designing in October of 2006.  I actually was designing before I was digi scrapping.  I had no intentions of giving up paper in my hands.  But after making two layouts “just to see if I liked it” I was hooked.  I have been selling my designs since May of 2007.  And I love it!  I love the creative process of making papers and kits.  And I love seeing how other people use the items I create.  It always amazes me how creative people are, and I love when they use something in a way I never even thought of when I created it!

My style is mostly grungy and distressed.  I love looks that are not fleeting, and I have loved this style for the last few years.  I expect I will always have a place in my books for it.  I also love bold colors.  Colors are very moody and I tend to like the ones that make a statement!

Hi my name is Kris Myers, I’m a WAHM mom to two young monkeys. My son Sage is 6 years old, and my daughter Cheyenne is 2 almost 3. I’ve married to the most awesome man in the whole wide world. After 12 years together we still like each other. Amazing huh? I’m also a Group Exercise Instructor at Bally’s Total Fitness, where I teach Cycling. I love it. I’m a junkie for Cycling. I’m also training in Yoga, and have my workshop/Certification coming up in about a month.. When I’m not at the gym or chasing my kids, I’m on my puter, plugging away at my latest designs. 

In a lot of ways, I’m like your typical Designer. I started out scrapbooking when I had kids, 6 years ago. I originally started the traditional way with paper. I quickly got bored with that, and started seeing designs in scrap booking magazines that I really wanted to do. I had already been using my computer for a few things on my layouts, but there was so much more I wanted to learn. I decided one day to check out this whole digi world, and I was quickly hooked. Within my very first layout, I never touched paper again. I was in love. I was busting out layouts like crazy. About 6 months later, I started out growing what was available to me. So many kits were not available in the designs I wanted, such as cowboy or poker, or very many little boy kits. So I decided to start learning how to make them myself. It didn’t take long before I started designing more than I was scrapping. I was addicted again. I was at a point in my life where I had a lot more free time on my hand, so I dived right into Designing, and found every tutorial available to me. I was whipping out freebies on my blog almost daily.

Three months later, I decided to start applying at some Digiscrap stores, and was hired on at Scrapdigistyle.com. It was a brand new store at the time, started by Alma at Scraphabit.com. I knew her designs, and knew I had to get on at that store. Alma had been around for awhile, and I knew I could learn a lot from her. Since my start at Scrapdigistyle, I was making kits like crazy. I had 60 brand new kits within 3 months. I was going crazy. Livin’ to do what I love. My creative team was going crazy trying to keep up with me. Lol.

Since all of that I have signed on at Plain Digital Wrapper, and have released about another 20 kits. I’ve slowed down a bit on my designs, putting a little more detail in each kit, and taking my time. I had to give my CT a little bit of a break! I believe that digital scrapbooking should be fun. I believe my designs are a little bit different in that sense that they usually  have a theme. I cant just make a kit with paper and elements with no theme to it. Its just not my style. I learned how to digiscrap that way, and it was what I had a hard time finding. Its just my style. I also like to keep my designs simple, so that I leave a lot of creativity open to the scrappers who use my designs. I don’t want them to feel limited to what I design, by doing all of the work for them. As a scrapper, I have very simple designs to my layouts. I don’t like to take much away from my photograph. I want it to be the main subject of my layout. Though its fun to do all kinds of crazy things with layouts, I want to make sure that the first thing someone sees is my foto.

Well that’s me! Simple, crazy, full of energy, and spice. I do what I do, because I love it, and it shows in my work. I hope that you all enjoy it as well. And I look forward to meeting you all on down the road.

Meet Jennifer White aka ScrapKitty Design!

My name is Jennifer White, and I am designing as ScrapKitty Design.  I have been working with Photoshop since 1995 as a professional retoucher.  I got into scrapbook design when I started laying out my kids' yearbooks in 2001 and needed to make my own backgrounds and elements.  Took me a while to figure out that OTHER people would enjoy what I was making, and in 2006 I joined the design team at SOTB.  

I'm married to a wonderful DH who is the Director of Digital Imaging at a pro color lab.  He teaches PS to photographers, so he's my help desk!  Together we teach Digital Imaging classes in the community and online, as well as PS and PSE classes.  We have three amazing, above average, good looking kids who provide PLENTY of scrapping inspiration! 

Our oldest (12) is an accomplished digiscrapper in her own right, with her own gallery!  She's now helping me grow the next generation of digiscrappers by teaching PSE at the middle school with me.  She inspires me to work more and more in bright colors and fresh young designs.  Stop by my site or store and look around, I hope you like what you see!
